New Yaki M7 - Shingen

Postby Deadly » Sat Sep 19, 2009 4:30 pm

I've finished off a ship that has been sitting around for awhile. With X3TC we co-opted the Naginata as the Yaki M6P, which left the Yaki without an M7.

I started this ships several months ago, trying to keep the "look & feel" of the Naginata...but up-sized to an M7.

Have a look:

It is currently using exactly the same loadout and spec as the Split Naga...and has no descriptive text yet.

That one looks pretty neat. Nice one.

As for a name, how about "Bisento"? Wikipedia claims it is "Much heavier than the naginata in construction".

Other possibilities keeping the tradition of using japanese weapon names:

jumonji yari: a polearm similar to a partisan, looks pretty wicked
Tonbogiri, Otegine or Nihongo: the "Three great spears of Japan"

Very sweet. Especially like how she's got the Naginata-style turrets that Rusti created, as well as Nagi-like upper wing-like superstructure.

As far as a name goes, "Nihongo" is ok, Japanese without being too obscure. Shogun is also ok, but perhaps a little too grandiose for an M7 (would be great for an M2). The other weapon names are also a bit obscure, although "Daikatana", or even "Nodachi" might work.

Picking a name from the Japanese Imperial fleet in WWII, or another city or province name could also be a good idea:
Yamamoto, Sakura, Kamakura, Hizen, Hamamatsu, Shoji, Ezochi, Mori, Nagato..

Regarding her specs, I'd love to take a look at her. Hopefully she's in the 1.0.8 build. Will check tonight, and see how she sizes compared to other M7's, and M6+'s like Naginata.

One concept that might work really well for her could be an M7/M7M Hybrid:
Version A: Milder version of Tiger (considerably weaker than Naga--but with M7M missle support)
Fast (135m/s)
Reasonably manueverable: (2.8rpm)
Decent shielding: 3Gj
Fixed-Frontal battery: 4-6x
Turrets just HEPT's/Flak, with some beam capability
Missles: Flail & Hammer capability (but no missle turrets for volley launch)
Hangar 6x

Version B: (Panther-type light carrier/frigate with frontal H.battery and M7M missle support)
Fast (135m/s)
Reasonably manueverable: (2.8rpm)
Good shielding: 3-5Gj
Fixed-Frontal battery: 4-6x
Turrets just Light Flak, with some beam capability
Missles: Flail & Hammer capability (but no missle turrets for volley launch)
Hangar 18x

The other idea is to make her a lighter & better shielded but faster version of Naga. Naga, imo, currently is almost an M7/M2 Hybrid; a pretty powerful ship..

The ship is in the 1.0.9 build.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'll have very limited access this week, as I am in all day workgroups through Thursday, and flying back to the US Friday.

I'll try and check in once every day (or two), but can't even promise that.

Have a look at the ship in the 1.0.9 build, and we'll settle on a name this weekend.
